Just in time delivery...

On a Friday morning we received a call from Kent County Council requesting urgent translation into French of a large and complex EU funding proposal which had to be submitted in triplicate in Paris the following Monday. We worked on it all weekend. The proposal got to Paris in time before the 18.00 hour deadline and our client won the contract.

Persistence and professionalism...

Crown Agents were bidding for a major contract to overhaul the customs systems operating in Angola. Over several months we supported them by translating correspondence, meeting notes, tender specifications, proposals and manuals from and into Portuguese. Our clients finally won the contract and went on to bid for further similar work in other countries, again with Cicero Translations providing translation support.

History in the making...

The Imperial War Museum hosts an ever-growing holocaust exhibition. For several years Cicero Translations has supported the museum by translating the many letters and documents which come flooding in from survivors and their relatives, and drafting the explanatory notices in the exhibition display cases.

Legal beagles...

Thomson Snell & Passmore, Solicitors, were asked to administer the estate of a Latvian-born lady who died intestate. The result was a totally unexpected inheritance by a tenant farmer in northern Latvia of an estate valued in excess of £3.5 million. Cicero Translations did all the work in translating between English and Latvian to prove probate and get the money paid.

Interpreting assignments

Holman Fenwick Willan is an global law firm, advising on all aspects of international commerce. In a series of crucial hearings in front of arbitrators concerning the salvage costs of a 3m cu ft coaling ship which ran aground off the coast of New South Wales Cicero's Japanese-English interpreter worked overtime to explain and help to challenge the opposing side's representations. Our client's clients were delighted with the arbitrators' final decision.

Our client Daiichi Chemicals needed Japanese-English interpreters for a company conference in Berlin. We flew out two of our top performers and the meeting was a success.

The office of the Chief Executive of Kent County Council took advantage of the presence in the UK of the Spanish Minister for Transport to organise a one-day conference on Anglo-Spanish co-operation in the transport sector. Cicero Translations provided simultaneous interpreters and all the sound equipment. The conference was a success.

For the Assessment and Safeguarding Team of a local authority we regularly provide Farsi, Lithuanian, Korean, Polish, Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese interpreters to accompany social workers on visits to families where nobody speaks English. Here is a typical piece of feedback from a social worker '...The Polish interpreter on my home visit today was very good. She was very professional and her interaction with the clients helped to put them at ease'.

Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs contacted us at short notice to help them apprehend a gang of Latvian drug-smugglers. Their team hired a hotel room adjoining the one where they knew the gang would meet. Using their sensitive listening devices our interpreter was able to eavesdrop on their conversation and record their exchanges. His transcript of their discussions was used in court successfully to convict them and prevent further heroin from reaching the streets.
