Tips for clients
If you need translation or interpreting, we obviously hope you will come to us. We are reliable and professional. Most of our work is for regular clients. Our new clients largely come through recommendation by existing clients.
If you plan to get several quotes, fine, but please do not automatically just go for the cheapest. It may save you money in the short term but cost you more in the end. A good translation is an ambassador for you and your organisation, and can make all the difference in helping you secure an order, win a court case or achieve the right image with potential customers.
Here is a checklist of the questions you should ask potential suppliers. We hope you find it useful:- Who have you worked for in our sector?
- Are your translators full-time professionals working into their mother tongue and continuously vetted by you for the quality of their work?
- Do they know the terminology used in our business?
- Do they proofread their work?
- Is it proofread again by a second, independent linguist?
- And then checked again by your project managers?
- Do your procedures satisfy EN15038 European translation standards?
- Is the checking and proofreading included in your prices?
- Will we pay for repeated text?
- Any hidden extras?
- Will my work be handled by an experienced project manager (ask for details)?
Also, if your suppliers are professionals, they will ask you relevant questions about the piece you need translating (background, purpose, intended readership, medium of publication) or the interpreting you require (background material, purpose, people involved etc.). Only consider suppliers who ask for such details.
